Why We Teach Survival Skills and Scripture at Remnant 300™

At first glance, it might seem like an unusual pairing—wilderness survival skills and Bible study. But at Remnant 300™, we believe these two disciplines go hand in hand. In fact, when it comes to raising strong, Godly men in today’s culture, we wouldn’t teach one without the other.

Because out in the wild, stripped of distractions and comfort, something powerful happens: boys become men. Faith gets real. And the truth of God’s Word becomes more than theory—it becomes lifeblood.

The Wilderness Reveals What’s Real

When a young man is learning to build a fire, purify water, or navigate by compass, he’s doing more than learning a skill—he’s waking up. He’s forced to focus. He’s pushed beyond his comfort zone. He starts to realize just how much he can do—and how much he needs God.

It’s not just about surviving the elements. It’s about learning how to stand strong under pressure, lead with calm, and think with clarity when the situation gets hard.

The wilderness has a way of breaking down the noise and building up the man.

Survival Is Physical—But So Is Faith

That’s why we don’t separate skill from Scripture.

When a young man is learning to sharpen a blade, he’s also learning what it means to be sharpened by the Word. When he’s starting a fire, we talk about fanning into flame the gift of God within him (2 Timothy 1:6). When he’s navigating by compass, we remind him that the Word of God is a lamp to his feet and a light to his path (Psalm 119:105).

Every physical survival skill becomes a spiritual lesson.

At Remnant 300™, we believe a strong man is one who knows how to survive in the wild and walk in the Word.

What It Teaches Beyond the Surface

When we combine Scripture and survival, we’re teaching young men:

  • Resilience – How to face discomfort without quitting

  • Direction – How to navigate life by the truth, not trends

  •  Discipline – How to follow through, even when it’s tough

  •  Identity – That their value isn’t in what they do, but Whose they are

  • Faith – That God is real, personal, and present in the wilderness

Because Life Doesn’t Come with a Map

Let’s be real—life isn’t easy. It doesn’t come with clear instructions, and most young men aren’t being shown how to handle its challenges.

Teaching survival without Scripture creates self-reliant men who are empty inside. Teaching Scripture without challenge often leads to shallow faith that crumbles under pressure. But teaching both? That creates warriors.

Young men who know how to push through, lead well, and call on the Lord when life gets wild.

The Result? Transformed Lives

We’ve seen it happen time and time again:

A boy who’s never touched a compass walks out of the woods praying boldly. A young man who didn’t know how to build a fire now burns with purpose. A teen who never cracked open a Bible now leads others through Scripture—with dirt on his boots and truth in his heart.

This Is Why We Do What We Do

At Remnant 300™, we don’t separate the sacred from the practical. We believe faith is forged in fire, and strength is built in sweat, struggle, and Scripture.

We’re not just training campers. We’re training kingdom leaders.

“Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, act like men, be strong.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4
